Happy Canada Day!
Almost forgot it was Canada day today, I had to be reminded by an Australian. It's territory day here so regardless I am having a fireworks show. Yesterday I saw a group of red kangaroos (6ft tall monsters) that are really rare here and are usually only found in the desert. Tomorrow morning I head into Kakadu national park with a ranger to do some culling of feral animals (water buffalo, pigs, cats, camels) so I may do a little photo essay that I will save if it turns out good. Taking some time off this weekend to go into a wetland area to photograph birds and hopefully crocs for a day. Hope everyone has an awesome long weekend!

Wanker
This guy is always on the news, I think he's the Australian defence minister. He looks like a weiner. I'm back in Darwin once again (a 3 hour drive from my site) taking a couple days off and writing papers and presentations.

Gold
As I may have mentioned before, one of my jobs while in Australia is a photographer for the company. This is a photo I took while at a gold pour of someone holding an $80,000 gold bar. It was really heavy. I'd post tons more but all the good ones are being used on the website and posters and stuff. Once I see some of the stuff they are using my photos for I'll be sure to post it. I'm also incredibly excited for the aerial photos I get to do, I should be paying them to let me do it.

More from Andy's Visit
I've been super busy and all the photos I've took are just for work basically. Hopefully will get some time off soon and I'm looking to travel to hopefully 2 of: Singapore, Borneo, Ningaloo Reef (Australia- has tons of whale sharks!), the Great Barrier Reef, and Sydney. Broken Social Scene (from Toronto) is fairly big here and they are playing in Sydney at the start of August, hopefully I'll see that.

How to Photograph a Bush Turkey
After seeing quite a few bush turkeys (a wee bit smaller than an emu) it became my goal to get a decent photo of one. Yesterday I found my first bird that didn't run directly into 6 ft tall grass. After chasing it with my car (although not going too fast so it would fly away) I had to quickly change to my telephoto lens so I could get close enough. I jumped out of my car and sprinted from shrub to shrub so it wouldn't run too fast. After having the camera on the wrong settings I managed to get one photo that was in focus and not a huge blur. I'm hoping to get a photo of their weird mating dance around sunset one day.

Mindil Beach
Untitled from Jordan Hoffman on Vimeo.
Took a quick time lapse the other day to test out the feature on my camera. This is Mindil Beach, home of the thursday and sunday sunset markets which have tons of really good food and shops that starts at sunset. Went to Kakadu and Litchfield national parks with Andy the last two days which were both really cool. I will be sure to load up some photos the next couple days. I'm looking forward to a huge Greek festival that's going on this weekend. Should have heaps of amazing food.

Home
This is home for the next bit, mostly when I'm on break and stuff. I pick up Andy from the airport today and he's here hanging out for the next bit. Might have the opportunity to tag along with a croc catcher later in the summer. Should be awesome!

Termite Mounds
These are everywhere and are heaps bigger than me with my arms in the air, so cool. Check my Flickr for a few new ones from Australia and lots of other photos too. Buying a tripod here soon so I can get better shots of birds. Saw my first Dingo yesterday which was awesome.
